The church building is a good example of Victorian church architecture. Stained glass in the church is the work of noted nineteenth century firm Lyon Cottier and Co. and the twentieth century Alfred C. Handel Studio.

Description

Physical description: The church is a typical Victorian Gothic church with single nave in brickwork and galvanised iron roof. The hall is a small single storey brick building with gable ended roof in galvansied iron and gothic arched windows. The rectory is a two storey mansion built in the Victorian era with imposing double storey verandah containing iron lace balustrades and columns.

History

Historical notes: Permission was given for St Andrews Church to be built at Seven Hills in 1871. The church was completed in 1880 with a stained glass window by Lyon Cottier & Co. The burial ground for the church was consecrated in 1888.

Two memorial stained glass windows in this building were designed and manufactured by Alfred C. Handel Studio, a noted Sydney ecclesiastical stained glass artist, in 1933-4. Alfred Handel had purchased the equipment of Lyon & Cottier when it ceased trading in 1923. The windows were in memory of Gordon Archdall Pearce and Edward William Archdall Pearce (Good Shepherd Window) and Elizabeth Hannah Horwood (I am the light of the world). The memorial window to Gordon Archdall Pearce and Edward William Archdall Pearce depicting the Good Shepherd was rebuilt by Philip Handel in 2006.
