History

Historical notes: Land at this site was purchased by Archbishop Polding in 1875 for the building of a church, school and presbytery. A Christmas mass was celebrated in a temporary chapel on the site in 1875. The original church was opened by the Very Rev Dean Rigney in 1884. A sanctuary and sacristy were added in 1895. In 1951, following the opening of the new church, the 1884 building was converted into classrooms, a function it still fulfils.
