Statement of significance:

Bearbung Hall is a surviving element of the infrastructure of the small settlement village of Bearbung that developed after Soldier Settlement of the area in the 1920s. The hall is used by the community of Bearbung for social events. The hall is representative of the development of the area in the early to mid 20th century. The hall has local historical and social significance, representativeness and a high degree of integrity.

Description

Construction years: 1933-1933
Physical description: The Bearbung Hall is s simple Bungalow Style building with timber frames and corrugated iron cladding. The main hall has a low-pitched gable roof and gable ends clad in compressed asbestos fibre sheets with timber strapping. A skillion-roofed supper room is located along the southern side of the hall. A large pergola in steel tubing with steel mesh screens has been erected on the northern side of the hall. Two toilet blocks are located north of the hall. A tennis court is located to the south-east.

The structure of the building appears sound, however external joinery requires painting.

The site is considered to have low archaeological potential.

History

Historical notes: The Bearbung district was originally included in the substantial Bearbong run. The area was divided up for soldier settlement after World War I.

The Bearbung Hall was constructed in 1933. A sawmill and shop were located near the present hall.
