History

Historical notes: Tenders called 1937. Construction commenced in 1938 and the bridge was officially opened in May 1940 later re-named after L.O Martin - Minister for Works and Local Government at time of construction. Final cost 97,000 pounds. Replaced punts at Taree & Tinonee. Originally had a lifting span with two concrete counter balances. Represented a major change in road transport and the transition from river to road.
