Statement of significance:

This small stone church is a monument to the dedication of the small methodist congregation who, in 1874, decided to erect a church in the district. The rapid suburban growth in that decade is reflected by the erection of a new, larger church within only nine years. The old church forms an important corner element within the grounds of Newington College.
