Heritage Inventory sheets are often not comprehensive, and should be regarded as a general guide only. Inventory sheets are based on information available, and often do not include information on landscape significance, interiors or the social history of sites and buildings. Inventory sheets are updated by Council as further information becomes available. An inventory sheet with little information may simply indicate that there has been no building work done to the item recently: it does not mean that items are not significant. Further research is always recommended as part of preparation of development proposals for heritage items, and is necessary in preparation of Heritage Impact Assessments and Conversation Management Plans, so that the significance of heritage items can be fully assessed prior to submitting development applications.

History

Historical notes: Opening service held 3/2/1884. Initially a branch of Christ Church St. Leonards (now Lavender Bay) with Rev. A. Yarnold as Rector and Rev. H.J. Rose as curate in charge. Later became a separate parish. Closed due to falling attendances in the 1980s and acquired by the Chinese Christian Fellowship of Australia in 1983.

The Church was amalgamated with the Parish of St Augustine in December 1989 and known as St John the Baptist, Kirribilli and the congregation size grew to become an independant provisional parish. In 2007 however, the Chinese congregation relocated to Artamon and Paul Dale became curate of St John’s.

The Church is currently owned by the Anglican Church Property Trust Diocese of Australia and became known as the 'Church by the Bridge' in 2005.

In 1909, the Church constructed a Church Hall which was referred to as the School Hall. Its foundation stone was laid in August 1909. Originally used as a Sunday school, it was later used by a pre-school.

A Rectory was built on Park St in 1922.
