History

Historical notes: Designed by Edmund Blacket in 1848, the foundation stone was laid in 1850 but the completion of the building was delayed due to labour shortages caused by the gold rushes until 1857. The nave was lengthened by Blacket in 1872, and transepts added by his sons in 1886. Stained glass windows commemorating leading local families added later. Consecrated by Bishop Barry in 1885 (charge three guineas). The historic pioneer's graveyard is of interest to visitors and local descendents.
