The listing boundary is formed by the Pacific Highway to the west the rear boundary of the residence as it crosses the tracks to the north, a line 20 metres to the south of the platform crossing the tracks and the rear property boundary to Mills St to the east.

Statement of significance:

Ourimbah station group is an excellent example of a combination of a wayside and initial island building at one site. It is one of the last surviving original buildings from the line to Newcastle and is of high significance. In combination with the residence it is a rare surviving group adding to its significance.

A rare and generally intact 19th Century group of finely detailed buildings of aesthetic significance. The rare complex reflects the growth of rail transport and settlement patterns of the area. It has historic significance because it is reputed to be the first purpose built railway station in the shire.

Single storey 19th Century railway station complex comprised of two platforms with administration and amenities buildings and station master's residence.

History

Historical notes: Ourimbah School was the first school in what is now Wyong Shire and was built in 1863 on the site of the present railway station. In 1886 the school was moved to the opposite side of the road.

The Ourimbah railway station was built in the same year and opened on 15 August 1887 and was the only station other than Narara between Gosford and Wyong at this time.

The station is of great significance to the region, since being built in the same year as Wyong Station, they acted in unison to connect the region with Sydney, and to pave the way for regional economic and residential development.

It is significant to the residents of the region for providing passenger transport for a century. The station provides evidence of the facilities provided to its public by the state in the latter part of the 19th Century, and of the scale of demand for rail transport at that time.
