Statement of significance:

This is a rare building on the NSW system and illustrates the interconnecting of the NSW and Victorian systems and the conflicts over gauge etc that took place over the years. The main value of the building is its location on a section of line that was largely connected to the Victorian system via the river bridge which was a combined road and rail structure. The bridge is of very high significance because of its technological value and its importance in the history of transport in the State and inter State rivalries.
