Physical description: Site:
The building is sited on the high point of a large corner site on the western edge of Walcha at the intersection of Thee and Fitzroy Streets (Oxley Highway), The house faces east and addresses Thee Street (Heritage Division report, 4.2018).

Garden:
A country-style garden consisting of planted beds and mature trees surrounds the house (ibid, 2018).

House:
A single storey residence constructed by the Anglican Church c.1877. The original building has a gabled corrugated iron roof (originally timber shingled) supported on face brick walls and timber framed verandah to two sides supported on posts having trefoil decorated timber brackets. All brick walls were originally 230mm brickwork. Many of Horbury Hunt's details are evident such as the large boarded roof gable, elaborate hall screens, central lobby lit by large sky light and large brick chimneys.

History

Historical notes: Development of the site has three main periods:
First stage - the original residence was designed by architect, John Horbury Hunt under the large gabled roof c.1877;

Second stage - early additions were built shortly after under a skillion roof with a pitch that matches the front verandah,

Third stage, that extends the rear of the house ca.1980 and 2007.

In 2016 additions were approved to the portion of the house from stage three (Heritage Division report, 4/2018).

ORDER UNDER SECTION 57(2) TO GRANT STANDARD EXEMPTIONS FROM APPROVAL

I, Penny Sharpe, the Minister for Heritage, on the recommendation of the Heritage Council of New South Wales and under section 57(2) of the Heritage Act 1977:

revoke the order made on 2 June 2022 and published in the Government Gazette Number 262 of 17 June 2022; and

grant an exemption from section 57(1) of the Act in respect of the engaging in or carrying out the class of activities described in clause 2 Schedule A in such circumstances specified by the relevant standards in clause 2 Schedule A and General Conditions in clause 3 Schedule A.

This Order takes effect on the date it is published in the NSW Government Gazette.
